SUPPORT
The purpose of Long Hearing Farm is to be part of a future where everyone’s basic needs are met. As a small, organic, vegetable farm we are working very hard to contribute to the basic food needs of our communities—folks living in the upper Stillaguamish and Skagit Valleys. Our purpose is big, but our timeline is long.
Each season we are pushing ourselves and working towards getting our fledgling business off the ground. We are learning every day what it means to scale up while remaining committed to our values:
Feed as many local families as our soil allows.
Create equitable land-based livelihoods and teach young people land-based skills.
Envision conditions for healing and transformation that center the needs of our communities.
Our success rests on the shoulders of the folks who are already supporting us and cushioning us from many of the barriers that prevent farmers from getting started. Lois and Anne give us so much and without their generosity, Long Hearing Farm would not be possible.
The truth is we still need more help. Our crew has made many sacrifices to make this project a reality. Our food system is not built for farms like ours. Our economic systems is not built for cooperatives likes ours. Our political systems are not built for small businesses like ours. If you believe, as we do, that our future depends on folks who are brave enough to create positive change within these conditions then your support is very welcome.
The money raised here will support us to move towards some of our biggest dreams:
Purchasing a tractor. As we scale up our systems we also must scale the machines we use. Our wheelbarrows and BCS tractor have gotten us through the last 5 years and now we are ready to grow into something that will allow us to maintain our own composting system and more sustainably use our bodies.
Building a new packshed. In 2023 you saw us open our farmstore to other local farm businesses. We believe that Long Hearing Farm could act as a mini upriver food hub and support our community to access locally grown food from other amazing local food growers. To have the infrastructure necessary to do this well we are looking towards building a new packshed with streamlined facilities that support our growth into a GAP certification.
Buying land. None of the work we do is possible without the soil. We are looking towards the ultimate security for our farm business through the purchasing of the land that we grow food on.
We are deeply appreciative that you are here and for all of the support that we have been shown as we build this business. With gratitude, Elizabeth, Kelly, Reed, Emily and Ben
