FAQS
GENERAL Frequently Asked Questions
-
Yes! The land we grow on has been certified organic since the very start of the organic program thanks to our mentor Anne Schwartz.
-
We have several favorite seed growers that we purchase our seeds from including: High Mowing Organic Seeds, Johnny's Selected Seeds, Kitazawa Seed Company, Osborne Quality Seeds, Second Generation Seeds, Uprising Seeds, True Love Seeds, Deep Harvest, Adaptive Seeds, Wild Garden Seeds, Ujaama Seeds. Some special seeds-- like the tarheel beans-- have been passed to us from neighbors, friends or family members. We use a variety of different seeds, whenever we can find an organic variety we will use it. Because of the demands of the market this isn’t always possible.

“I am a mixed Blackfeet person. My grandma, and my grandma’s grandma Long Hearing Woman, are Blackfeet and grew up in what is now the Blackfeet Nation Indian Reservation near Glacier National Park. Long Hearing Woman lived through a time of transition and violence. She went from being deeply rooted in traditional Blackfeet ways of knowing and being to a life dictated by structural racism. Yet according to my grandma, Long Hearing Woman was the most joyful person--so sweet that her nickname was Peaches! I hope to live up to her legacy by integrating Indigenous food practices with my many years of market gardening to feed as many families as we can in Sauk-Suiattle, Upper Skagit and Stillaguamish lands.” - Elizabeth
“One of our core values as a farm is a commitment to change on a deeper scale of time. We are lucky to be farming right beneath Sauk Mountain. When bumping into hard decisions or figuring out how to live out our values I look to Sauk Mountain. What is the bigger picture? How can I place my actions in a deeper scale of time? We are here for the Long Hearing - are we acting like it?” - Kelly

Farmshare
What is a Farmshare?
A Farmshare is weekly bags full of freshly harvested produce for 20 weeks starting in June and ending in October. By signing up for a Farmshare, you will receive the best produce the season and the farm has to offer at the pick-up point of your choice. Becoming a Farmshare member is like being a Long Hearing VIP, you get the best of everything we have to offer because you’re paying for the season’s produce upfront. You might also hear us call the Farmshare a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) - they mean the same thing!
As A Farmshare Member, you will receive:
a mix of 6-8 organic vegetables (and sometimes a little fruit) harvested and delivered weekly. The photos above are examples of what our bags look like across the season!
an option of picking up your farmshare in Birdsview, Concrete, Darrington, Marblemount, Mt. Vernon, Rockport or Sedro Woolley.
a weekly email newsletter with news from the farm, a list of your produce that week and recipes
invitations to connect with us on the farm
be the first to know about bulk produce announcements, special sales, and Farmshare only discounts

Payment and Pricing Options
-
A sliding scale allows folks who have a higher income to pay a little more so that other folks with lesser incomes can pay a little less. There are no questions asked. You pay what you feel is right for you and your family. We are trying to do two things simultaneously; offer a more affordable option while at the same time keeping our small farm business afloat. A sliding scale helps achieve both of those aims while making our produce a little more accessible.
Our Standard Membership is based off of the value you are receiving as a customer: $26.5 worth of produce over 20 weeks = $530. Our Community Support Membership gives folks a chance to pay a little extra if they can to help offset the costs of a subsidized share for lower income families. You will not receive more veggies if you pay $630. We only have one Farmshare size.
Every farmshare is the same size and will include the same items. You decide what price works for you, our sliding scale includes 3 levels:
Lower Cost Membership: $430 ($21.5 weekly)
Standard Membership: $530 ($26.5 weekly)
Community Support Membership: $630 ($31.5 weekly)
This season we are adding in two new levels! In truth, the cost of doing business and the investments that we need to make in the farm call for higher prices. This year, we intend to buy a tractor, which will allow us to make compost on the farm. We also are moving towards building a new packshed and purchasing land. We seek a way to pay for these expenses without raising prices for members of our community who are already stretching their budgets to purchase a Farmshare. To that end, this season we are adding two pricing levels to the upper end of our sliding scale:
Farm Support Membership: $730 ($36.5 weekly)
BIG DREAMS Farm Support Membership: $1000 ($50 weekly)
These levels will support the farm to move towards some of our bigger dreams and goals. To learn more about what we are moving towards check out our Support Page.

We only offer one size share and for some folks our bag is just a bit too much produce to get through each week! If this is the only limiting factor to becoming a farmshare member we encourage you to find someone to split your share with!
Splitting a share means that you will be in an agreement with another Long Hearing Farmshare member to pay for and divide the farmshare produce in a way that feels fair and equitable to both members. Usually picking up the box on alternating weeks is the easiest way to split your share, but we will leave it up to each pairing to figure out what works for you!
Not sure who to split with? Add your name to our Split Share List and we will do our best to match you with another member at your pick-up location.
-
Our payment plans use an automatic billing system and all payments will be online. Please read through our Payment Plan Sign Up to see available options and for further information. If online payments is not your thing or you have any other questions about how payment plans work please email us with any questions!

Our Spring Share is 5 weeks of produce starting before the Full 20-week Farmshare essentially extending your farmshare experience for an extra 5 weeks! The Spring Share includes 4-5 of the first of what the season has to offer, including lots of greens and other favorites like radishes, green onions and fresh lettuce.
Please note that our Spring Share is delivered to a smaller selection of locations than the Full 20-week Farmshare.
-
Add-ons are the opportunity for our customers to receive even more locally grown goodness. Some are delivered alongside your farmshare, others act as a season extension like the Spring Share and others can be one time purchases like our bulk sales in the fall. Please read each add-on description for the specifics of how and when it will be delivered to you.
Some of our add-ons are grown by us, like our salad bag and tomato add-ons. Others, like the berry and flower shares, are grown by local businesses that we love! We continue to grow our partnerships with other farmers in the valley and plan to have even more of their produce available for purchase through our Farmstore in the near future.

If you’re worried about having too much, we encourage you to split the box with someone else! Find a neighbor, co-worker, family member and go halfsies. We're sure there will be more than enough to go around. If you are splitting the share please let us know who you are sharing with on our Split Share Sign Up Page. This helps us to ensure everyone gets the newsletter, updates, and that all payments are confirmed.
If you would like to be matched to split the share with someone please fill out the Split Share Sign Up Page and we will do our best to find you a partner!
-
We encourage you to share the bounty with a neighbor, friend, or family member! At this point we cannot handle the administrative and logistical burden of special asks or bespoke arrangements. If you are a close friend or family member, this means you too. Farming is one big juggling act and what may seem like a simple or small request can often cause a lot of stress.
If getting a refund, ‘make up share’, or vacation arrangement is the difference between you participating or not please email us before June and we can work it out
-
We understand that having one farmshare with different prices can be a little confusing. If you’d like to learn more about sliding scales we encourage you to check out other farms who do this, like Zenger Farms, or one of our farm-sheroes Leah Penniman at Soul Fire Farm (author of one of our favorite books: Farming While Black).
-
We offer a specially adapted 15 week share that will run from June - end of September. This should line up with folks’ seasonal commitments to the park. If you would like to access a lower cost share, please email us and we can work something out.
